Welcome
Welcome to the I Ching Workshop website, a place for interested beginners to learn about the I Ching (a classic book in traditional Chinese philosophy) and for those familiar with the I Ching to discuss their practice and related thoughts.
Most I Ching translations provide the fundamental verses (the Zhouyi) plus portions of one or more of the commentaries known as the Ten Wings, and also usually add some of the author’s ideas and interpretations. One of the first Western translations was published in 1899 by Scottish missionary James Legge. The most popular Western translation has been Richard Wilhelm’s1923 German language book that was translated to English in 1950, with a foreword by Wilhelm’s friend Carl Jung. The author of this workshop website has included I Ching in his daily meditation practice since 1973 and helped prepare the draft manuscript of Alfred Huang’s I Ching translation that was published in 1998.
Under the Introduction menu item, two public sub-topics (Shao Yong and Yin & Yang) provide a brief overview of the I Ching. If reading through those initial topics gives you an interest in further information, additional material is available for registered members.
